The National Weather Service broadcasts continuously on a band most Americans forget exists, and it was built for exactly the person standing on a riverbank deciding whether to launch. NOAA Weather Radio runs seven channels between 162.400 and 162.550 MHz, each covering a region with round-the-clock forecasts, warnings and observation summaries. Which channels carry marine forecasts?
All seven weather channels carry the same regional program, so the question is not which channel but which transmitter: coverage maps published by the NOAA Weather Radio program show which of the thousand-plus transmitters serves a given county, and a SAME-capable receiver filters alerts to the counties the listener selects. For river and lakeshore users, the marine zone forecasts embedded in the program matter most: they carry wind speed, wave height and thunderstorm risk for named stretches of water rather than for county seats. How do you read a forecast for moving water?
